Mark started beekeeping about 10 years ago. Over the years he’s had mixed fortunes – sadly in the harsh winters some hives were lost but after restocking with black bees from Colonsay in 2013 a fair amount of honey has been cropped.
It is fascinating to look inside the hives and see the bees at work. The above photo is a close up of a frame showing different coloured pollens (from different flowers) and a few cells of grub with bees busily working away beside them.
This year hasn’t been very productive unfortunately, but hopefully we’ll have more honey available to buy next year.
